Scion Nonprofit Staffing, Inc. (www.scionnonprofitstaffing.com), the nonprofit staffing specialists, have been engaged to conduct a search for a Project Design Coordinator for our client, a reputable nonprofit organization championing conservation here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. This exciting new role with a team of exceptional leaders and individuals is a contract-to-hire opportunity working remotely with the possibility of eventual on-site work at their office in Vancouver, WA.
 
Summary
The Project Design Coordinator supports the Communications Team, which is led by the Communications Director. The Communications Team, in turn, supports various projects and needs of staff throughout the organization, and collaborates most closely with the Advancement Team with the shared goals of raising awareness and support for the organization. 
 
The Project Design Coordinator will work closely with the Communications Director to manage the production of communications pieces, including printed reports, newsletters, and collateral, as well as digital platforms such as ArcGIS Story Maps and a Wordpress website. Project management for many of these projects will involve gathering input and feedback from the Advancement Director and the Advancement Team, based on their fundraising and events messaging needs.
 
What you will be doing
- Graphic Design: Utilizing Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, Spark) to provide in-house graphic design support on graphic design projects such as fact sheets, social posts, web graphics, and PowerPoint presentation decks, all while adhering to the organization’s brand guidelines and writing style. 
- Project Management: Managing a production schedule for printed materials, including reports, newsletters, and factsheets. Writing, editing, and directing art in collaboration with the Communications Director and Advancement Team. Ensuring that contributors and contractors (writers, designers, editors, printers) stay on deadline.
- Writing and Proofreading: Supporting writing projects ranging from social media posts to blog posts and emails. Assisting in proofreading written communications.
- Expense Tracking: Tracking invoices and expenses with communications contractors against annual communications budget, filing and submitting to the Communications Director for approval. 
- File Organization: Organizing photos and other media files, working with volunteer and paid photographers to collect new graphic assets for communications pieces. 
- Supporting Activities and Knowledge: Developing knowledge on local, regional, and national issues related to the organization’s mission in order to serve as an effective spokesperson for the organization.
 
What you have to offer   
- Demonstrated prior experience in graphic design, nonprofit communications, or related field is preferred but not required. 
- Experience with project management around developing print communications is key, and experience with conservation/environmental messaging is very helpful. 
- Must be adept at using various applications including databases, spreadsheets, report writing, project management, website content, social media platforms, graphic design, word processing, presentation creation/editing.  
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, and Illustration is required. 
- Experience with WordPress or similar website CMS, as well as Microsoft Office tools including PowerPoint, is preferred. 
- Familiarity with collaboration and project management tools, particularly MS Teams and Trello, is a plus.
- Photography skills are a plus, and a basic understanding of content creation is strongly desired.
- A keen ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports and media articles related to nonprofit communications, fundraising, as well as environmental issues and conservation. 
- Ability to draft captions, blog posts, and stories relaying technical projects in a digestible, engaging way. 
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, contractors, supporters, and the general public, top management, and/or public groups. 
- The ability and desire to engage with culturally diverse groups of stakeholders including donors, volunteers and community partners. 
- You excel in communication and enjoy it! Is skilled in internal and external communications, and have experience with “brand voice” style writing for quick-turnaround content publishing. 
- You enjoy  working collaboratively in a team environment, can be flexible and are open to problem solving in this setting.

Compensation & Benefits
